Starting Point: Discover the Spirit of Research and Creativity

As you step into the entrance, you’ll be welcomed by a bright and spacious lobby illuminated by skylights.
At the center stands the “Circular Loom,” invented by Toyota Group founder Sakichi Toyoda in 1906. This groundbreaking loom defied conventional wisdom by weaving fabric three-dimensionally and is a symbol of Toyota’s “spirit of research and creativity.”
Through this revolutionary machine, visitors can trace the roots of Japan’s industrial revolution and reflect on the importance of innovation and perseverance.
The exhibit showcasing the transition from textile machinery to automotive technology presents not only a historical narrative but also inspiration for the future.
Enjoy a journey that brings you closer to the passion of Sakichi Toyoda.
Experience the Origins of the Textile Industry and Discover a Vision for the Future

The Textile Machinery Pavilion at the Toyota Commemorative Museum is a unique space where the history and innovation of textile machinery come alive.
Housed in a nostalgic red-brick building from the Taisho era, the exhibit features around 100 machines arranged in chronological order, from manual labor tools to state-of-the-art technology.
A highlight of this exhibit is the live demonstrations by staff. Witnessing yarn being spun and fabric woven in real time evokes the true excitement of craftsmanship. These moments allow visitors to experience firsthand the passion and ingenuity behind Sakichi Toyoda’s philosophy of “research and creativity.”
The historical building itself is photogenic, with every corner offering a picture-perfect moment. The quiet atmosphere of the red bricks, combined with the rhythmic hum of the machines, gives a surreal sense of traveling through time.
This is no ordinary exhibition space—here, visitors can truly feel the origins of Japanese manufacturing and its aspirations for the future. The experience is filled with both wonder and inspiration.
Exciting Moving Exhibits: Explore Everything About Automobiles

The Automobile Pavilion spans a massive 7,900 square meters, resembling a full-scale automobile factory. It offers a comprehensive look at Toyota’s automobile manufacturing history and technology through immersive, hands-on experiences.
The pavilion is divided into five zones: “The Founding of the Automobile Business,” “Vehicle Development Looking Ahead,” “Development Technology,” “Production Technology,” and “Who Was Kiichiro Toyoda?” Each zone thoroughly explores a different aspect of Toyota’s journey and innovations.
One of the most exciting features is the live demonstrations of actual machines, performed by staff. These allow visitors to experience the car manufacturing process up close.
Many exhibits feature machines and cutaway models that visitors can operate by pressing buttons, making learning fun for both children and adults.
In addition, there are family-friendly features such as a kids’ corner and a children’s library, designed to make manufacturing enjoyable and accessible for younger guests.
The Automobile Pavilion offers deep insight into Toyota’s innovations and spirit of craftsmanship. It’s a space where visitors can feel the development of Japan’s auto industry and be inspired by the legacy and future of Toyota.
Feel the Evolution of Industrial Technology Through Live Demonstrations

At the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology, visitors can witness the evolution of Japanese industrial technology through dynamic demonstrations of historical machines.
For instance, the Circular Loom invented by Sakichi Toyoda in 1906, weaves fabric through a unique rotary mechanism. Demonstrations are held at 9:55, 11:25, 13:25, and 14:55.
The 1898 Swiss-made Sulzer steam engine, which powered Japan’s modernization, is another highlight. Visitors can witness it in action at 11:00, 14:30, and 15:30.
Don’t miss the partner robot violin performance, featuring a two-legged humanoid robot playing delicate melodies. This remarkable performance is scheduled at 11:10, 13:20, 14:40, 15:40, and 16:40.
Additional demonstrations, held only on weekends and holidays, include the Techno Live Show, showcasing the three major metal processing techniques: casting, forging, and cutting.
These demonstrations provide rare opportunities to experience historical technological breakthroughs up close and leave a lasting impression on all who attend.
