Ryoguchiya Korekiyo: A Sweet Tradition Loved Across Centuries

Ryoguchiya Korekiyo’s origins trace back to 1634, when confectioner Saburouemon Saruya was invited from Osaka by the Owari Domain to open a sweet shop in Nagono Honmachi.
Renowned for his mastery of wagashi, Saburouemon’s legacy continued to grow, and in 1686, the second lord of the Owari Domain, Tokugawa Mitsutomo, officially bestowed the name “Gokashi-dokoro Ryoguchiya Korekiyo.”
Over the centuries—from the Edo era through Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and now Reiwa—the company has preserved its traditional techniques while continuously innovating to discover new dimensions in wagashi.
Their dedication to premium ingredients, careful craftsmanship, and seasonally inspired flavors and designs elevate their sweets to more than just confections—they are a reflection of Japanese culture and artistry.
This balance of history and innovation lies at the heart of Ryoguchiya Korekiyo’s enduring appeal.
The Flavor of Sennari, the Elegance of Sasara-gata: A Moment of Sweet Serenity

The signature sweet “Sennari” is a dorayaki featuring fluffy pancake-like shells and rich, flavorful fillings. It comes in three varieties: red bean paste, matcha paste, and apple paste. The name is inspired by “Sennari Hyotan,” the gourd crest of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, symbolizing a wish for abundant happiness.

Another favorite, “Sasara-gata,” is a refined sweet shaped like a jewel and made in five flavors: red bean, matcha, brown sugar, yuzu, and sesame. Beautifully packaged and individually wrapped, it’s a perfect gift.

Other selections include “Ochikochi,” known for its moist texture, and “Futarishizuka,” which highlights the delicate sweetness of wasanbon sugar.
With a wide range of seasonal specialties and assortment boxes, Ryoguchiya Korekiyo offers confections suitable for everyday moments and special occasions alike.
A Space as Special as the Flavor: Experience the Flagship Stores

The Yagoto store is tucked into a quiet residential neighborhood and features a cozy café space where guests can enjoy seasonal wagashi with matcha or sencha. With its calm atmosphere, it’s popular among both locals and tourists.
