Encounter Iconic Aircraft—An Impressive Real Aircraft Exhibition

The highlight of the Aichi Aviation Museum is undoubtedly its impressive display of real aircraft.

The YS-11, Japan’s first domestically produced passenger aircraft after World War II, made its maiden flight at Nagoya Airport and can still be admired up close today. In addition, visitors can see a wide range of aircraft that represent Japan’s aviation industry, including the globally recognized MU-2 business aircraft, the domestically developed twin-engine helicopter MH2000, and the large EH-101 helicopter used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Among the highlights is the T-4 trainer aircraft used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s Blue Impulse team, making this a must-see lineup for aviation enthusiasts.

In addition to the scale and impact of real aircraft displays, visitors can also explore aviation history through the “Top 100 Aircraft” exhibit, featuring meticulously crafted 1/25-scale models. Exhibits showcasing engines and aircraft structures provide insights into the principles of flight, making it possible to understand how aircraft work through visual learning. It is a space where aviation history and technology can be explored both intellectually and experientially.

Experience Careers in the Sky—Piloting and Maintenance

What makes this museum truly unique is that visitors can do more than just observe—they can step into the world of aviation themselves.

Among the hands-on programs available, the YS-11 flight simulator is especially popular. Visitors can take the controls and experience everything from takeoff to landing, enjoying a realistic sensation of flight. The aircraft maintenance experience allows participants to learn about aircraft structure while performing simulated inspection tasks, offering insight into the essential behind-the-scenes work that ensures aviation safety.

In the Science Lab, visitors can learn the principles of flight through experiments and hands-on activities, including popular workshops such as paper airplane making. These programs are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for both children and adults, offering an ideal balance of education and entertainment. They are particularly well-suited for families and school field trips, making the museum a highly regarded destination for experiential learning centered on aviation.

*Please note that each program has limited time slots and capacity. Checking the official website in advance will help you make the most of your visit.

Feel the Reality of Flight Through Video and Motion

In addition to its exhibits, the museum also features highly popular immersive attractions that combine visuals and physical sensations.

The Orientation Theater on the second floor introduces the history of Aichi’s aviation industry and the role of Nagoya Airport through large 3D visuals and powerful sound, serving as an engaging introduction to the exhibits. Meanwhile, the “Flying Box” on the first floor is a motion-based simulator that combines moving seats with a giant screen. The synchronized visuals and vibrations create an extraordinary sense of immersion, making you feel as if you are truly flying.

From the rooftop observation deck, located just 300 meters from the runway, visitors can watch aircraft take off and land up close, experiencing the sound and vibrations of the engines firsthand. This is a thrilling experience for both aviation enthusiasts and children alike.

By combining visual learning, hands-on experiences, and real aircraft observation, the museum offers a comprehensive approach that draws visitors fully into the world of aviation.

Take Home Memories of the Sky—Museum Shop & Café

After enjoying the exhibits and experiences, why not take a break at the shop or café?

The museum shop offers a wide selection of Blue Impulse goods, aviation-related books, and exclusive original items. Visitors can take home souvenirs that connect directly to their experience. From aviation-themed stationery to sweets, there is something for everyone, making it popular with a broad range of visitors.

The café on the second floor offers an excellent location with large windows overlooking the runway. Enjoy coffee or light meals while watching aircraft take off and land—a truly relaxing and luxurious experience. Combined with the observation deck, it provides an even more immersive way to enjoy the world of aviation.

These spaces offer the perfect conclusion to your visit, allowing you to relax while reflecting on what you have learned. The experience and knowledge gained here can be carried home as lasting memories of your journey.
