In the current Shikinen Grand Festival, a ritual is held in which the deity of Hokosha Shrine travels to Chusha Shrine to meet the father deity enshrined there. This procession symbolizes a return to the origin: \u201cTogakushi began at Okusha.\u201d Both the deities and the people move from the village toward the foot of Mount Togakushi. This scene is the spiritual foundation of the festival and an enduring image of faith that remains unchanged through the ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For visitors, the Shikinen Grand Festival is less a flashy celebration than a time to physically sense the accumulation of thousands of years of devotion. There is no official order for visiting them, so you can plan your route freely according to your schedule. However, if you connect all five shrines on foot, you should allow roughly half a day. The kagura consists of ten dances in total. The performances range from prayers to ward off misfortune and bring abundant harvests to reenactments of the \u201cOpening of Amano-Iwato,\u201d the origin of Togakushi itself.
