Mikimoto Pearl Island is where Kokichi Mikimoto succeeded in farming pearls, a world first, back in 1893. In 1951, the island was opened to the public and since then many visitors from Japan and around the world have visited Mikimoto Pearl Island. On the 23,000 m2 island, tourists can learn all about pearls at the Pearl Museum, learn about Mr. Mikimoto himself at the Kokichi Mikimoto Memorial Hall and enjoy shopping and dining at the Pearl Plaza.
